BRRI dhan62

Introduction of variety:
Ancestral line no. is BR7517-2R-27-3. Bangladesh Rice Research Institute has invented this variety. This variety is invented through hybridization of Jirakatari and BRRI dhan39 then Rapid Generation Advanced and then Pedigree Selection. This variety was approved by National Seed Board in 2013 for cultivating in Aman season.
Characteristics:
- It is High Yielding Variety
- High of the plant is 98 cm.
- Rice grain is long, thin and white in color.
- 1000 seed weight is approximately 24 gm.
- Protein is 9% in rice.
- Zinc is 19 mg/kg of rice.
Why this variety is important:
Farmer can harvest this rice 10 to 12 days before than BRRI dhan33. So farmer can easily cultivate early potato or other Robi crops. As BRRI dhan62 needs short duration so this variety can easily escape Drought. This variety is Zinc enriches variety, so this variety is necessary to mitigate the malnutrition that occurs due to lack of zinc in foods.
Lifespan:
This variety remains in field (sowing to harvesting) 100days.
Yield:
Average yield of this variety is 3.5 to 4.5 ton per ha.
Cultivation procedure:
1. Seed sowing in seedbed: 21 Ashar to 30 Ashar (5 July to 10 July)
2. Age of seedlings: 20 to 25 days
3. No. seedlings per hill: 2 to 3 seedlings
4. Plantation distance: 20 cm by 15 cm
5. Fertilizer management (kg per bigha):
a) Urea - 20 kg per bigha, TSP 9.5 kg per bigha, MP 9.5 kg per bigha, Gypsum 5.5 kg per bigha, Zinc sulphate 1.5 kg per bigha,
b) Whole amount of TSP, Gypsum and Zinc sulphate and half of MP fertilizer should be applied during final land preparation. Urea should be applied in two installment such as 1st installment after 10 days of transplanting in main field and 2nd installment after 20 to 25 days of transplanting in main field. Remaining MP and Urea should be applied as basal dose.
Weed control: Field must be kept weed free till 25 to 30 days of transplanting.
Irrigation: Irrigation should be applied when it is needed.
Harvest: 28 Ashwin to 3 Kartik (13 to 18 October) is the appropriate time of harvesting.
